President and Chief Executive Officer
Alan has been President and Chief Executive Officer at Potbelly Corporation since December 2017. He has over 30 years of executive leadership experience across a variety of blue chip organizations. Alan brings a strong track record of leading retail and restaurant organizations through successful turnarounds and through periods of exceptional growth.
Prior to Potbelly, Alan provided strategic and executional consulting services to organizations in transition. From April 2007 to September 2015, he served as Chief Executive Officer of BevMo!, a specialty retailer of alcoholic beverages and related products. Prior to that, Alan served as Senior Vice President and General Manager for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, and as Chief Operating Officer of Regal Theaters (formerly known as Hoyts Cinemas). In addition, Alan spent six years at PepsiCo in increasing leadership positions, culminating as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for PepsiCo’s Eastern Europe restaurant division. Prior to that, he served as International Strategic Planning Director for Pizza Hut International. Alan is on the Board of Directors of Saucey, a wine, beer & spirits on-demand delivery start-up.
Alan graduated with a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Technology, Sydney Australia.
Senior Vice President, Information Technology
Maryann Byrdak has been Senior Vice President, Information Technology at Potbelly Corporation since March 2018. She joined Potbelly in August 2015 as Vice President of Information Technology. Prior to joining Potbelly, from June 2006 through July 2015, Maryann held various positions at Office Depot, Inc. (previously OfficeMax Incorporated), culminating with Senior Director, IT.
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Tom has been Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Potbelly Corporation since December 2018. He has over 30 years of experience in a number of executive roles across a variety of leading multi-unit consumer-facing companies.
Prior to Potbelly, Tom served as President and Chief Financial Officer at Charming Charlie, where he had previously served as Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to his roles at Charming Charlie, Tom served as Chief Administrative Officer of Sears Canada. Prior to that, Tom held several leadership positions at Liz Claiborne, was Chief Financial Officer at Burlington Coat Factory, and was Chief Operating Officer of Bath & Body Works.
Tom began his career at PepsiCo, where he held various leadership roles in finance and planning. Tom completed his undergraduate work at the University of Florida, and earned an MBA from the Indiana University School of Business.
Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Chief People Officer and Secretary
Matt is Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Chief People Officer and Secretary of Potbelly Corporation. He joined Potbelly in January 2007 after working with several Chicago-based companies in his career, including Sears Holdings Corporation, True North Communications, and most recently as both Deputy General Counsel of Brunswick Corporation and General Counsel of Brunswick New Technologies, Inc.
Matt began his career with the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis. He graduated with a B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois College of Law.
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
Brandon has been our Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer since June 2018. Brandon joined Potbelly from Papa John’s International, Inc., where he served as Global Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to Papa John’s, Brandon was Vice President of Advertising, Media and Digital/Social at Wendy’s International. Brandon started his career in marketing at the advertising agency Gyro.
Brandon has a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Northern Kentucky University.
Chief Restaurant Operations Officer
Julie has been Chief Restaurant Operations Officer at Potbelly Corporation since December 2018. She has worked for Potbelly since 2008, first learning operations as a General Manager and then as a District Manager before assuming various operations roles and being promoted to Central Zone Manager overseeing 220 shops in 2010. In 2015, she assumed the leadership role of Senior Vice President, Operations.
Prior to Potbelly, Julie served as Senior Vice President, Customer Experience, and before that served as Vice President, Marketing at Kmart. She began her career with IBM in 1997 in Retail Planning and Forecasting Technology and worked with several large retailers prior to joining Kmart. Julie completed her undergraduate work at the University of Michigan, and received an MBA from Wayne State University.
Senior Vice President, Development
Jeff is our Senior Vice President, Development. He joined Potbelly in April 2018, having previously served on the Board of Directors for Papa Murphy’s International from 2015 through 2017. Jeff was previously President of the international group for Krispy Kreme. Prior to that, he was at The Home Depot, where he led international real estate. He has held senior roles with PepsiCo Restaurants International (now known as Yum! Brands) culminating as VP of Franchising and Business Development for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Jeff completed his undergraduate work at the University of California San Diego and received an MBA, with a concentration in Real Estate and Finance, from Brigham Young University.
